Thyme essential oils are strong, vigorous and stimulating

The Thyme plant exhibits a number of different ‘chemotypes’, which means that, like Rosemary, different oils from the same plant species will have very different effects depending on where they grow. These variations in the chemical makeup of the identical plant’s essential oil result from different climatic factors and growing conditions. Because they have different effects, it is important to classify the oils accordingly. In the case of thyme oils one could say that it is more important to identify the chemotype of the oil than the species.

Thyme essential oils have been shown to be a powerful germicides, being effective against many types of bacteria, fungi and viruses. They are highly stimulating for the circulatory system, and also strengthen the immune system. They may be used as a general support during convalescence. Some types of thyme oil can be irritating to the skin.
